Saturday Men's Team Beaten by Wrightchoice & Unity CSA
Our Saturday Men's team went down 4-3 against Wrightchoice & Unity CSA in a 7 goal thriller at Cintra Park.
Wrightchoice took the lead on 11 minutes when a ball over the top fell to the Wrightchoice striker who tapped in from close range. The lead was doubled on 37 minutes when a corner wasn't dealt with and the ball dropped at the feet of the Wrightchoice player who smashed home from 8 yards.
Going into the break trailing 2-0, Burghfield were given a mountain to climb when Wrightchoice made it 3-0 from the penalty spot just 5 minutes after the break. The Blues got themselves back into the game just a minute later when a Billy Margetts effort was saved well by the keeper but the ball dropped to Daniel Roberts who slotted home from the edge of the box to reduce the deficit. With the pressure starting to build on the home side, Wrightchoice broke and won another penalty to make it 4-1.
Not to be deterred, we went straight back on the attack and only a brilliant save from the Wrighchoice keeper could deny a Dane Kirby header from pulling a goal back for the Blues. We kept piling on the pressure and were given the chance to reduce the deficit when the referee pointed to the spot for the third time in the game. Adam Taylor made no mistake from the spot to make it 4-2 with 15 minutes remaining.
With the rain starting to fall the Blues were penned in the Wrightchoice half and didn't let off the pressure. Billy Margetts grabbed his 8th goal of the season to make it 4-3 with 5 minutes remaining, lobbing the on-rushing keeper to set the game up for a grandstand finish.
We kept piling the pressure on the Wrightchoice back-line but were unable to find a leveller in what was a thrilling encounter. A spirited second half performance was not quite enough to pick up a point and with no game scheduled until the new year the squad now have a chance to regroup over the break and come back stronger next time out.
