Burghfield FC fall to defeat at Woodcote Stoke Row
By James Randall
Burghfield were on the wrong end of a 7 goal thriller this afternoon as we went down 4-3 away at Woodcote Stoke Row.
Burghfield took the lead inside 5 minutes after great work down the left from Billy Margetts gave Dominic McKenzie the chance to slot home from 5 yards.
Not letting the pressure up, we doubled our lead 5 minutes later after some great play down the right hand side. A cross from Jordan Jones was turned into his own net by a Woodcote defender.
With Burghfield leading 2-0, Woodcote upped their level and pulled a goal back just after the 20 minute mark through a deflected shot.
The host pulled level just minutes later after a ball into the box found its way into the bottom corner.
We dug deep for the remainder of the half and went into the break with the score line at 2-2.
Woodcote took the lead shortly after the restart when the ball fell to the Woodcote striker after a good save from McCulley.
The lead was doubled just 5 minutes later when Woodcote dispatched their fourth from the penalty spot.
Not to be deterred the boys battled on and looked to get themselves back into the game. Richard Dance beat his man down the right and his cross was just inches away from Margetts. A few minutes later, Jordan Jones ran in behind the hosts defence but his effort went narrowly wide.
We pulled a goal back on the stroke of 90 minutes when a Billy Margetts cut back was slotted in by Jordan Jones, his first goal for the club after joining this season.
The hosts managed to hang on as the game finished 4-3. Plenty of positives to take from the game as we now look forward to next weekends home fixture against Richings Park.
