Burghfield Bounce Back to Beat Richings Park
By James Randall
Burghfield FC picked up 3 points at The Rec this afternoon after beating Richings Park 1-0.
The blues were on top from the first whistle and almost took the lead inside 15 minutes when Ryan Farmer was picked out at the back post by Leroy Clarke, only for his volley to be well saved at the near post.
We kept pressing for the opening goal which finally came on the 40th minute when a Ryan Farmer cross was headed home by Courtney Thompson-Springer for his first goal of the season.
Leading 1-0 at the break Richings Park were always going to come out fired up in the second half.
Richings started the second half the brighter of the two sides but the Burghfield defence stood strong to limit Richings to only shots from distance.
Growing back into the game we somehow weren’t able to double the lead when a Tom Marrs volley was superbly blocked by a Richings Park defender.
Not long after, second half substitute Martin Abery was released through on goal, only to be denied by a brilliant stop by the Richings keeper.
With time running out Richings threw everything at us but we held firm to see out the victory and pick up a vital 3 points.
Every player really dug in and the boys put in a real shift today and we now look forward to taking on Reading City U23s at The Rec next weekend.
