After a tough introduction to the new U18's division last week, we re-grouped at training and discussed key areas we needed to work on.
The reaction from the boys today was exactly what we all hoped it would be, a tough fixture with worsening conditions made the game a bit clumsy at times, but in the first half we missed at least 3 really good opportunities and really looked like the team in control, our opposition had one chance at our goal in the first half and were clinical, we came in 0-1 down at half time.
The boys were instructed to go out and do the same, keep the faith and believe in the way that they are playing and that it will pay off.
Finchampstead made the most of an early opportunity to secure a 0-2 lead, all of the boys in blue did not let that knock the performance and remained positive trying to make things happen, Ollie V was released on goal and cooly dispatched the goal Vs a charging keeper. (2-1)
The game settled for a spell, but on 70mins Elliott made a charge in to the Finchampstead box and leaving the opposion no choice but to commit to a tackle which ended up being given as a foul, Ollie W slotted away the pen. (2-2)
From this point it was end to end stuff, a really heavily competed game, both teams going for the win and on the 85min Finchampstead were rewarded for there work with a goal. (2-3)
The boys would of been forgiven for being deflated at this point, but they dug their heels in and continued to drive at our opposition, a cross was made in to the box from the right, flicked on by Hayden and tucked away by Elliott. (3-3!!!!)
Myself & Ian are so proud of the boys today everybody met our opponents head on with the physical battles and showed no fear, they did not expect that and this one feels like a win to us! Play like that next week and we will have no problems competing in this new division.
MOM - this is a tough one, a lot of stand out performers but for me Elliott pips the bunch, covered a hell of a lot of ground, always looking to be positive on and off the ball, and constantly speaking to his teammates, won the penalty by driving in to the oppositions area, rewarded with what felt like the winning goal. Well done mate.
Thanks Everyone See You Next Week
