Blues back in action with a win

Blues knock Hawks for 6
Always tricky to get going again after the Christmas break and it didn’t look like the boys had been having too many early nights over the past 2 weeks but the Blues started brightly on a pretty rough pitch and were in control from pretty early on. The Hawks defended resolutely and Burghfield found it hard to find space in and around the box for a clear shooting opportunity. The break-through came after about 12 minutes when the ball was partially cleared and fell to Fergus who curled in a beautiful shot from outside the box.
Playing down the hill the Blues continued to pile on the pressure but it was looking like it might be a frustrating morning until after a corner and a shot from Ben that was blocked, the ball fell to Will M who lashed it into the roof of the net. Not long after yet another corner and Morgan finished for his obligatory goal. Ben was booked for and overly firm challenge and as the Blues over-committed going forwards the Hawks caught them on the break to snatch a goal back right on the half-time whistle.
In the break we had a chat about keeping our shape and focus as we have a habit of letting teams back into games but after the break Curtis calmed the nerves when he smashed home a long range shot. The Blues continued to apply the pressure and mid-way through the half some good work by Morgan in the area as he slipped the ball to Archie who finished well. Will G and Ben were released from defensive duties and a surging run by Ben up the left resulted in goal number 6.
The Hawks were always dangerous on the break and their keeper made a number of good saves but the Blues made comfortable work of it in the end.
MoM this week was Neil who had an excellent game breaking up danger down the left and calmly linked play in midfield.
