Blues win tight contest

Penalty settles contest
In contrast to last Saturday a much cooler day for the Blues game against Laurel Park Hurricanes. After a tight contest earlier in the season another tough test was expected for the depleted Blues squad.
Hurricanes started much the brighter, quicker to the ball and could have been 2-0 up inside 10 minutes with one shot hitting the bar. After withstanding the early pressure the Blues started to get the ball down and played some nice passing combinations.
As the half wore on the Blues exerted more pressure without making any really clear chances apart from a couple of good corners.
Laurel Park defended very deep and were very organised trying to hit us on the break with long balls out from the back but Christian as usual swept up most of the danger.
Level at half time and as expected little between the sides.
Blues started the second half a little better and Tom started to torment the full-back with his pace, cutting in once to crash a cross/shot against the post. The boys were beginning to play with a bit more composure and create more pressure in and around the Laurel Park area and on 18 minutes a push in the back resulted in a penalty which Fergus calmly stroked home off a short run-up. The last quarter of the game was a bit tense and there were a few scrambles around our area but the Blues saw the game out for a hard won victory.
Man of the match went to Will G who covered goal for the whole game in commanding fashion and produced one of the saves of the season tipping a shot round the post diving at full stretch.
