Blues battle to end of season draw

Curtis wonder goal helps Blues draw with Tigers

Car loads of grumpy sleepy teenagers made their way into London for our final game of the season. A cool but sunny day and a big well grassed flat pitch welcomed us for our game against Hearts Of Teddlothian Tigers (HoT).
Having played a tight game earlier in the season and with HoT a place below us in the table this promised to be a tight game and that exactly how it started. HoT very strong in midfield had slightly the better of the possession and threatened a couple of time to break through and after just 10 minutes a speculative shot from the edge of the area somehow made it’s way into the far corner of the net. After this the Blues started to play a bit better and created a couple of chances one which fell to Archie almost on the goal line but on his wrong foot and he couldn’t quite force it home. HoT had a couple of very dangerous corners which were extremely well defended. 1-0 at half time but little between the teams.

The second half started with the slight breeze behind the Blues and this seemed to help as the boys began to exert a bit more pressure in the HoT half. Ten minutes in Tom was fouled wide on the right and a wicked free kick by Curtis was headed home by Ben to level things up. Soon after Ben’s right boot fell apart and he had to change boots with me for the rest of the game. Halfway through the half Curtis spotted the keeper just off his line and from the half-way line launched a rocket that went over the keeper and into the net to give the Blues the lead. Fergus twisted his knee and had to come off for a while so Ben pushed up into a more attacking role. The Blues tried to get a third to secure the win but HoT were still dangerous on the break and in the last quarter broke in numbers and before the Blues midfield could get back the ball was crossed into the area and bundled into the goal. Last few minutes and the Blues pressed forwards for the winner with Curtis on the right wing and Tom on the left but it wouldn’t come and so the game ended 2-2 which was probably a fair result in this excellent close game.
MoM went to Curtis who had a great game setting up the first goal, scoring the second.
