U13 Bears get off to a great 11-a-side start!
By Simon Timperley
A great start to 11-a-side for the Bears as they comfortably beat AFC Henley Hurricanes 8-0 on Saturday. It was our first match at our new Mortimer West End pitch, which definitely feels like home already. It was also our first game in our new kit sponsored by Harris & Harris Builders.
We started the game strongly, and were on top straight away. The early pressure told with Harry opening the scoring after 5 minutes. Confidence grew and the pressure continued, with Henley conceding a penalty for handball, which Dylan slotted away calmly. Jacob then burst forward after winning the ball in the defensive half on the left, he then put a perfect pass into the path of Harry to slot in his second, a great goal. Harry wasn't finished though, he dribbled through and finished well to get a great hat-trick to see the Bears into half time 4 nil up. We had plenty of other chances, with some great delivery from corners and free kicks from Jake.
We continued to dominate in the 2nd half, winning another penalty for handball, this time debutante Roshan stepped up and slotted in off the post to make it 5. James' industry in midfield was then rewarded after he scored with a great long range shot. Sean was busy throughout, causing their defence problems, he was fouled in the box, a third penalty, which unfortunately went agonisingly wide. There was still time though for more goals, a determined run down the right wing by Jake and a perfect low cross was met first time by Roshan which ended up in the far corner, another nicely worked goal. Then Dylan made himself some space on the left, beating a player and slotting in from close range for his second. We also witnessed the first yellow card in one of our games, after Sean was hacked down when he would have been clean through.
So a great performance. Max in goal didn't have a great deal to do, but made one important save and his distribution was good. The back line was strong and didn't really give them a sniff. Lucas did well in his first game and I think will develop a great partnership with Harvey. Lots of great individual efforts today, but MOTM was James who had a great game in the middle, confident on the ball, playing it simple when required, but also driving forward regularly, and got a deserved goal.
There is no doubt we will face much stiffer opposition this season, but you can only play what's in front of you and they did that superbly, well done boys!
