U13 - Winsdor Youth Eagles 8 - 2 Bears
By Simon Timperley
Back down to earth with a bump for the Bears today, unfortunately not us scoring 8 this week!
We knew it would be a tougher game today, having played this decent side last season in Division 3. We started really well though, competing well all over the park and took a deserved lead early on after James burst through, tying their defenders in knots and finishing with a great shot high into the goal. They hit back almost straight away, with their most dangerous player finding a way through and slotting home, he would go on to cause us lots of problems with his pace. But we continued to play well, our midfield competing well and looking secure at the back. Windsor were next to score though, and not for the last time, were a little fortunate to have a cross cum shot find it's way into the corner. Windsor scored again before the break, 3-1 at half time and although we lost momentum we'd played well enough to think we'd be able to get back into it.
Windsor started the 2nd half well and scored another, again taking advantage of the huge goals but we fought back and Harry was put through, he did well to hold off the defender and fire an unstoppable shot into the top corner. With plenty of time left we looked to get another but were caught a few times by through balls to their quick striker and a combination of his skills and some fortunate shots that looped in past a helpless Max they scored 4 more times to make the final score 8-2.
Windsor deserved the win, but the scoreline was harsh on us, had it been in 9-a-side goals, it would have been closer, but we need to also take advantage of the bigger targets and get more shots away. Some good performances today, James had a great first half, continuing his good form from last week, Lucas had a great game at the back and Dylan put in another good performance. MOTM went to Connor, was strong in the tackle always trying to get to the ball first, passed the ball well and could be heard organising and encouraging.
