Whitegrove Leopards 7-2 Bears
By Simon Timperley
Another tough fixture for the Bears, playing a team that were in the league above last season. This was not helped by having two of our key defenders unavailable and both our central midfielders starting injured. Definitely a bit of a bogey team, we played them two seasons ago and we had no subs that day and Harvey went off injured.
Still enough of the excuses, we had a decent first half! The first 15 minutes were close with neither team creating any clear chances. Whitegrove took the lead though when one of their players (who was a mile offside!) raced clear and slotted home. That gave them confidence and we had to dig in, with Max coming to the rescue a couple of times with some great saves. We got back into it and won a free-kick on the edge of the box, Harry floated over a ball which Sean slotted home after it fell to him. Whitegrove didn't take long to re-take the lead, but we reacted well again and just before half time Harry found some room and hit an accurate shot from distance which nestled in the corner, 2-2 half time.
Fair to say we ran out of steam in the 2nd half. With both James and Jake crocked and effectively immobile, we tired quickly and lost our shape. Whitegrove capitalised and it was a tough second half, conceding 5 goals. To their credit, the boys didn't moan and stuck at it, everyone putting a shift in. It was tough on Max who had a great game, but he deservedly got the MOTM award.
