U13 Ascot United 1-1 Bears
By Simon Timperley
Bears welcomed back Lucas after a lay off with a broken wrist, which gave us the opportunity to try 3 at the back again. The idea was to strengthen the back line but also to use the pace of our wing backs. This worked ok in the first half, we started brightly and scored early after a quick throw put Harry through, he used his strength well to hold off the defender and slot home cooly. After the goal Ascot had most of the possession but we defended well and they didnt create much. We had a few chances on the counter attack and really should have scored after good work again from Ed on the right but his great ball into the box didn’t get the finish it deserved. 1 nil at half time.
We were forced into a change at half time with Harvey not feeling well so reverted to 4 at the back. The change meant we lost our attacking full backs but we had more bodies in midfield and we had more pressure and possession. Again Ascot weren’t creating too much so it was unfortunate when they got an equaliser following a mix up at the back. We responded well though and spent a lot of time in their half. Connor was unlucky to see his header from a corner go just wide and James, who had another good game, was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions after great penetrating runs on goal. It wasn’t to be though and it finished 1-1. A decent performance but we need to get our passing game going again. MOTM went to Ed today, he did exactly what was asked of him in the first half, getting forward and being a real threat down the right and defending well in the 2nd.
