Clearly this is a course of action that we had hoped to avoid, but due to the future uncertainty around ongoing social distancing measures and the resumption of grassroots football, this is now our only viable option.
We very much hope the situation will have improved enormously by the first weekend of June, when the tournament was scheduled to take place. But even if this is the case, we are unable to organise and arrange all of the logistics required to host more than 200 teams, with so much doubt and unpredictability of the future.
We realise that this will be disappointing for all clubs and players that had registered, but health and well-being must remain the priority.
We will be in touch with all applicant teams in the coming days to arrange refund of entry fees.
The cancellation of the tournament will certainly have financial implications for us as a club, but we will do everything possible to try to reduce the impact of this on our members and our future activities.
The Burghfield tournament will of course return next year, and we look forward to welcoming all teams back again in 2021.
