The Pledge of Positivity asks parents, coaches and spectators in grassroots football to commit to creating a more positive environment.

As part of the FA’s Respect programme, the ‘We Only Do Positive’ campaign was launched to promote and educate coaches and parents on their roles in creating a fun, safe and inclusive environment for all the players, ensuring they have great experiences throughout their football journey.

As part of this campaign, the ‘Pledge of Positivity’ was launched in February this year, following a survey which found 88% of over 1,000 grassroots participants cite parents as a driver of disrespect in grassroots football.

Over 5,000 grassroots coaches, parents and spectators took part in making the pledge before the grassroots season came to a premature end in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

With grassroots football now restarted, the FA have relaunched the ‘Pledge of Positivity’, encouraging those on the touchline to support all players involved and respect referees, coaches and other spectators.

The Pledge is based on the FA’s RESPECT behavioural code of conduct which seeks to improve standards of behaviour in football. These simple behaviours are proven to make football a more enjoyable and positive experience for everyone.

Research shows 90% of footballers play better in a positive environment.

The FA’s pledge of positivity is a commitment made by parents, spectators and coaches in grassroots football to use their influence to make the match day a more positive environment.

As a club we are fully supportive of the ‘We Only Do Positive’ campaign and the wider FA Respect programme. We are proud to make our Pledge of Positivity to create an environment where everyone can enjoy football. We support all players involved and respect referees, coaches and spectators.

We encourage all of our members to follow suit and make your Pledge of Positivity at pledge.thefa.com.
