Burghfield FC held a Charity Game to raise money for the Adelaide Ward at The Royal Berkshire Hospital in support of Jamie Lucas.

Jamie Lucas is one of the longest serving players at the club and also a friend to many people within the club. Jamie was diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year and whilst he continues his fight, everyone at Burghfield Football Club, along with Jamie, wanted to give something back to those who have helped him through his journey so far.

Whilst the weather couldn't make it's mind up, the crowd were not to be deterred and there were in excess of 250 people at the event, more than we could have anticipated!

With the rain starting to fall, the players made their way out onto the pitch.

The Burghfield FC XI took the lead after 10 minutes when Billy Margetts dinked over the onrushing Luke Bishop to open the scoring.

Burghfield FC XI doubled their lead not long after when a brilliant Kieran Farmer cross was headed home by Josh Cook.

The youth and exuberance was clearly causing problems for the Jamie Lucas XI and the Burghfield FC XI added a 3rd inside 30 minutes when a classy move was finished off with a brilliant finish from Billy Margetts.

The onslaught didn't stop there as the Burghfield FC XI made it 4 when Rhys Iremonger cut in from the left and smashed the ball into the bottom corner.

With the score at 4-0, the Burghfield FC XI were threatening to cause havoc before the Jamie Lucas XI got one back when Ryan Farmer raced through the middle and slotted past Ian Wise to make it 4-1.

Was an incredible come back on the cards?

Just minutes later, a loose ball dropped in the box and Rick Ward calmly slotted home to narrow the deficit just before half time.

After a rousing team talk from the gaffer, Dave Taylor, the Jamie Lucas XI came out in the second half with a point to prove.

It didn't take long before the lead was cut to just the one goal. Jon Mahoney smashed home a loose ball to make it 4-3 and the comeback was almost complete.

With time running out, Richard Dance seized upon a defensive mistake before rounding the keeper and making it 4-4. The goal caused absolute delirium at Burghfield CSA. Scenes.

After such an incredible game it was only right that the trophy was shared between the two sides. Jamie Lucas presented the two captains, Adam Leahy and Joe Morris, with the trophy.

Ali Dunne was also presented with the Man of the Match Award, again, presented by Jamie Lucas.

Whilst everyone enjoyed such a brilliant day, the main reason was to raise as much money as possible for the Adelaide Ward at The Royal Berks.

We are delighted to announce that we have so far managed to raise an incredible £2290.77!! An unbelievable amount for a such a brilliant cause!

Chris Smalley-Ward, event organiser, said: "I would like to thank everyone who came along and donated money to this great cause.

Also a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the day run as smoothly as possible, the people who donated prizes/cakes/services, the guys running the BBQ and tuck shop, the DJ for doing the event for free, the Burghfield players who helped on the entrance and parking.

And of course the players and referees that gave us an entertaining game of football......in some way!

An incredible amount raised... Thank you!"
