Weekend Round-Up - 12/13 September 2020

Burghfield FC15 Sep 2020 - 07:40

The weekend saw our Sunday First Team involved in Cup Final action, as well as the return of EBFA competition for several of our youth sides.

The action this weekend got underway on Friday night, as our Sunday Firsts faced Emmer Green in the Tilehurst Charity Cup Final. A near perfect performance from the team, with goals from James Sayer, Kieran Farmer and Harvey Beales, saw us secure a 3-1 victory and claim the trophy.

Our Saturday Reserves travelled to Sheepcot Rec on Saturday afternoon to take on Goring United. Goals from Leon Hewitt, Callum Anderton and Luke Stroud gave us a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Also taking on a Goring United on Sunday morning were our Sunday B Team, who unfortunately suffered a 1-0 defeat. The only goal of the game coming from a debatable penalty for the visitors.

The Sunday Reserves faced Englefield at Theale Rec and were unlucky to come away on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline after putting in a good performance against higher division opposition. Dom Lee scored the Burghfield goal.

A tough test against higher division opposition also for our Sunday A Team, as they faced Rose & Thistle at CSA. Phil Lee scored our goal from the spot as we suffered a 6-1 defeat, a result not fully reflective of the game overall, after a flurry of late goals for the visitors.

It was a mixed weekend for the U17’s as they got underway in their EBFA league campaigns. The U17 Blues suffered a 5-0 defeat away at Ascot United Galaxy, but the U17 Reds secured an emphatic 10-2 victory at home against Berks County Jags.

The U16’s travelled to Bracknell on Saturday morning to face FC Bracknell Youth, coming away with a 1-1 draw as Patrick Wynn scored our equaliser after falling behind in the first half.

Our U15 Bears also got their EBFA season underway as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home as they faced Woodley Saints Wolves.

It was a great start to the season for the U14’s as they beat AFC Charvil 6-1 at Mortimer West End on Saturday morning.

The U13 Buffalos were unfortunate to come away with a 3-2 defeat from their trip to face Ascot United Chargers on Saturday morning. A very encouraging performance from the team deserved more from the game.

A first taste of competitive league action for both our U12 teams this weekend saw the U12 Rangers suffer a 2-1 defeat at FC Bracknell and a 0-0 draw between the U12 Tridents and Woodley United Tornadoes at the Rec on Saturday morning.

Also in action this weekend were our U11 Lions, U11 Tigers, U9 Oranges, U9 Reds and U9 Yellows.
