Prioritising mental health has never been more important than it is now.

10th October is World Mental Health Day, a worldwide celebration of awareness for mental health.

At a time when several of us have experienced considerable change to our daily lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we as a club understand the importance of communities pulling together, looking out for and supporting each other.

It’s estimated that one in four people will experience a mental health illness each year in the UK. For them, the pressures and strains of life and work can act as a catalyst to mental health problems, with the most common being depression and anxiety. However, the links between good physical health and mental health are well recognised. Physical activity like playing football can be very beneficial for mental health and wellbeing as well as bringing physical benefits.

Mind, the mental health charity, are promoting their ‘Do One Thing’ initiative this World Mental Health Day. The initiative is also being backed by the EFL and all of its clubs. Whether it's going for a walk, learning a new skill or doing something creative, taking the first steps to getting support for yourself, or reaching out to someone else; take the opportunity to do one thing this World Mental Health Day.

We all have a part to play when it comes to the mental health and well-being of everybody involved within the club and our wider community.

Information on some of the magnificent mental health charities that can offer help and expert advice can be found in our dedicated Mental Health and Well-Being section on our website.

It is important to remember that if you are struggling, feeling down, or need support - reach out for help. Someone will always listen.
